Truth Values & uOttawa is an innovative EDI event to rethink inclusion and diversity in the Ottawa STEM community. It will be a combination of Gioia De Cari’s award-winning theatre performance Truth Values, the post-performance panel discussions, and a networking event for the local STEM community.

About the play “Truth Values”
Truth Values is a true-life tale that offers a humorous, scathing, insightful, and ultimately uplifting look at the challenges of being a professional woman in a male-dominated field.
Writer/performer and “recovering mathematician” Gioia De Cari creates “refreshing delights of humor, even compassion (EDGE Media) as she charmingly brings to life more than 30 characters “each rendered on an empty stage that hints at the countless stories similar to hers but untold.” (TimeOut New York)

This play resonated with me: I, too, was a PhD student at MIT, a few years later. It made me think more about how much small interactions with your peers and professors – good ones, and bad ones – buffet you in life. I absolutely identified with Gioia’s resilience and spark in the face of the bad, and loved and envied her fun outrageousness.

Truth Values First Canada Tour
This September 2022, “Truth Values” is coming to Canada for the first time! Gioia and her team will tour Ottawa, Toronto and Waterloo according to the following schedule:
- September 15, 16, 17, LabO Theatre, Ottawa
- September 20, Erindale Studio Theatre, Mississauga
- September 22, Hart House Theatre, Toronto
- September 24, Theatre of the Arts, Waterloo
